What does the Saga of Lord of the Rings Teach Healthcare?
Most of you have watched Peter Jackson’s epic saga Lord of the Rings. It’s been almost 16 years since the first Lord of the Rings movie was released, bringing J.R.R. Tolkien’s mesmerizing world of hobbits, elves, dwarves, and orcs to life. I was rewatching it recently and couldn’t help but see parallels to healthcare’s present conundrums.

Rewinding Healthcare 2017: Top 10 Highlights
Looking forward to the year ahead is one thing, but if we are to have a balanced perspective on the changes in health reform, we must also learn from the year gone by. The year 2017 has been a year of uncertainties and opportunities. The election of Donald Trump ushered in a new era for the US healthcare industry, which has spent years adapting to the erstwhile U.S. President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act (ACA). Despite the potential policy changes in Washington D.C., the painstaking and challenging work of shifting to value-based care continues.

With 2017 almost in the rear-view mirror, it is time to look forward to 2018 and how healthcare will evolve in this year. IoT in Healthcare: Overcoming Barriers to Adopting the Next Generation
Internet of Things or IoT has made quite a name in the healthcare industry and there are endless opportunities for its application in the same. In an earlier blog, “Internet of Things: The Digital Future of Value-based Care”, we discussed the significance of IoT in making the care delivery process more efficient and automated.

Why High-risk Patients Need More Attention in Value-based Care than You Think?
45-year old Jerry Rodríguez, a resident of Nebraska, has had a tough life. He faced an almost-terminal heart attack when he was 34 and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation. To make matters worse, his health conditions were so irregular, he couldn’t hold a steady job. By 2012, though he had a dingy studio apartment rented on his name, he pretty much lived in different emergency departments. That year, he visited the ED 17 times and was admitted to the hospital 14 times.

Physician Burnout: Do we have a Cure for this Disease in Modern Healthcare?
People become physicians out of the commitment to spend time with patients and not with computers. Their aim is to cure lives and stay connected with patients, but that ideology is getting lost as more and more non-healthcare burdens are increasing on them. Care teams are labouring their hours away on Excel sheets, which is not certainly not among the best practices in healthcare.

The ABC of Integrated Care: Smart Integration over Just Integration
Isn’t “work smarter, not harder” something we’ve heard on multiple occasions? It may seem just like any other wry motivational poster, but come to think of it, it could also be a good mantra for healthcare- especially when we look forward to a data-driven infrastructure.

StratiFi Health Cements Population Health Initiatives with Health IT: 4 Things to Know
Population health management- a term that is widely used and heard in healthcare, but scarcely understood. Some focus on bringing about better clinical outcomes. Others focus on measuring the outcomes and becoming accountable. Regardless, healthcare organizations across the country are developing and implementing population health initiatives. More and more organizations are looping in health IT to streamline patient care, risk assessment and preventive care.

Driving Value in Care through the Consumer-centric Approach
Not too long ago, I read an article which claimed that “health care businesses acting like Amazon will gain an edge.” It got me thinking how consumer centricity in healthcare if applied to healthcare can open doors for health organizations all over the U.S. to cut down costs, enhance quality and more than anything else, improve the patient experience. The reason being that consumer centricity is simply a well-structured approach towards patient-centric care.
